WIAW #16: Holiday Edition!

WIAW is hosted by Jenn over at Peas and Crayons!

The past couple of days have been really busy! We spent time with my husband's family on Christmas Eve before spending Christmas Day at home with my dad and the girls.

My stepmom-in-law made an amazing Christmas Eve Feast! We enjoyed  cheese and crackers, bread, wines, hummus, sweets, and for the main course: braised shrimp, bacon wrapped dates, and the most amazing proscuitto, arugula, goat cheese, and fig bites! These hors d'oeuvres were some of the best things I'd ever eaten!

J-Dawg and I brought gluten free sweet potato chips (from Food Should Taste Good) and pumpkin spice muffins for everyone to share.

Christmas morning, after delving into our stockings and unwrapping presents, we had a breakfast of bacon, eggs, and biscuits (gluten free toast for me!), with mimosas of Moscato champagne and fresh orange juice.

We received a sampler of assorted jellies as a gift, and we spread them on our toast and biscuits. I especially loved the lemon curd and the Scottish strawberry preserves!

Bacon and fried eggs are NOT healthy options at all, but since this was a holiday, I didn't feel the slightest bit guilty about enjoying the food. I did eat only one egg, so I could have a little more bacon, however!

Christmas dinner was much simpler than Thanksgiving had been. We enjoyed a spiral sliced ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, roasted brussels sprouts with red onion, sweet corn, rolls, and cranberry sauce. For dessert we had pumpkin and apple pies, and plenty of cookies that my daughter and niece had made the night before.

I wasn't terribly hungry, since we had a late breakfast, so I kept my portions small, making sure the corn and brussels sprouts made up the majority of my plate.

I didn't make a gluten free dessert for myself, but I did enjoy a small slice of pumpkin pie (sans crust) with a generous dollop of whipped cream.

We have plenty of leftovers and will be eating ham for the next couple of days. I don't plan on cooking for a couple of days... ham sammies are on the menu! I enjoyed every moment of my holiday, and I'll be posting highlights later this week.

I will also be hosting a GIVEAWAY later this week... I know you're going to love it!

What did you have for your holiday meal?

  1. Ham, ham, and ham! Au gratin potatoes, crescent rolls, Brussels sprouts, and there was pie, but we haven't even cut it yet. So much food...not enough appetite!

    1. I didn't even make the entire ham! I froze half of it and we'll probably have it at Easter. Too much food!
